Space is being arranged for you in the Corellian System Deepdock.

The Imperial Security Bureau’s Head of Station’s assistant informs you that they do not have a great deal on the Hidden Hand, most of which is unsubstantiated rumour. There are numerous Underworld factions on Corellia, however, and the security of the shipbuilding industry is paramount, especially given recent events.

Once again, your requests for additional forces is denied. However, someone will be arriving on Tao next turn.

You get to enjoy transhipment to Corellia, as well as whatever exercises you choose to do aboard ship.

Tao

The Empire takes great pride in its wide industrial base, helping to revive the flagging industry on worlds past their peak. It’s hunger is near insatiable, for both material and labour. The burgeoning industry on Tao is no exception. Fueled where possible by the natural resources of the planet, and where not by imports, the labour of such sites is not always being local. There is no shortage of miscreants in the Empire, and whilst not all are considered suitable for forced labour, there are still many that are.

Slave labour comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes, though most are humanoid, as they are better suited to producing what the human & near human dominated Empire requires.

Rumour has it that one of the leading lights of the Tao insurgency was once such a forced labourer, a Lepi who escaped and was taken in by the natives, growing up on the world, growing to love the world that had become it’s home.

Perhaps the rumour is true, as in a dramatic escapade, one of the larger labour camps, where the workers off shift rest, has suffered a large breakout, the camp practically being left empty, save for the dead Imperial troopers left behind…

A Star Destroyer exits hyperspace above the planet.

Despite the fears of those on the surface, it does not immediately start trying to turn the surface of the planet to glass. A lone shuttle, escorted by four TIE/ln fighters, makes its way from the Star Destroyer down to the main Imperial Base on the planet’s surface.

The shuttle’s lamp lowers and out walks …

"Yes, and if the rumors are to be believed, his actions may have drawn several subversive groups to that world. So, we are going to make use of his blunders, and see if we can't get any honey from that Hornets’ nest he has stirred up."

"The man is a menace. He would see the entire galaxy burn if it meant he could be king of the ashes. But if he is stirring up trouble, then we may have a rare opportunity. When do we leave?"

Commodores LeRoy's underway cabin was relatively small. Most flag officers preferred to use the Admirals cabin down in the bowels of the ship. It provided ample space for staff and dignitaries. LeRoy on the other hand seemed to prefer being closer to the ships command areas. In the event of an emergency, he could be on the bridge in moments. Gavin respected that about LeRoy. Finding senior officers in the Imperial Navy so concerned about readiness and efficiency was a welcomed change from the pompous windbags he was used to dealing with. Still, in all his years in the Army, the Navy never once failed to deliver them to the right place at the right time. As Gavin looked around the cabin, he couldn't help but notice a single glass case mounted on the wall. The case was filled with LeRoys large collection of accolades he earned during the Clone Wars. "Impressive" Gavin couldn't help but think to himself. Gavin turned towards the other men sitting around the table in the center of the cabin.

"RCT One (Regimental Combat Team 1) has been prepped for rapid deployment. The rest of the brigade will remain onboard the Implacable. The crew is ready for atmospheric deployment if needed. We can drop the entire brigade on the planet in one drop if need be."

"Good to hear. Any issues with interactions between the Stormtroopers and your soldiers I should be made aware of?"

Major Adal had just taken another drink of the Corellian Whiskey Commodore LeRoy had served them. As his executive officer, Gavin usually let Adal handle issued with the men. In a way, he also served as the unofficial morale officer for the 327th.

"Sir, there was a minor incident in the galley aboard the Reciprocity yesterday. A minor altercation between a squad of off duty storm troopers and a few of our men in th 327th. I am not sure who threw the first punch but I ordered the men confined to quarters."

Commodore LeRoy took a sip of Anaxian Brandy that Gavin had brought for the occasion.

The only major casualty was one of the chairs that got thrown against a bulkhead. The rest didn't even need a bacta patch Sir. I am happy to report that when pressed, not a single man from either unit was willing to rat the other out. So there is at least some level trust there..."

Commander Ralth couldn't help but let out a snort at the comment.

"Never thought I would see the day, Army Soldiers and Stormtroopers, working together on something, even if its staying out of the brig."

Major, once we are done here, have those two squad leaders brought to me. I want to get the measure of those men. Colonel, if those men meet muster, what would you say to those squads accompanying me when I go and greet the illustrious Colonel Vuugerm?"

Gavin shifted in his seat and leaned forward. The reports he had been reading about Tao were not particularly encouraging.

"The situation on Tao is tenuous at best. When we land, I dont know if we will be able to depend on the local imperial units. The 327th and 212th are going to have to depend on one another. At least until the situation on the ground is within hand. I dont see a problem sending those squads down. I will by standing by with RCT 1 if things go south quickly. It might also be a good idea to set up ground operations on the planet. My staff has identified a few potential locations for FOBs."

At that, Commander Ralth began to speak.

"Commodore, Colonel, I did some research into Tao, and it has an rather impressive amount of forests and low rolling hills. Maybe use this as an opportunity to put the LAATI pilots through their paces? With out disturbing the populace more then Vuugerm has. Maybe something for the children?"

"First of all, in here Colonel, its Jim. Second, Jacob, thats a wonderful idea, training for the pilots and gunship crews, all the while doing a little repair work on the image of the Empire. Gentlemen, what do you think?"

"I appreciate that Commo...I mean...Jim. Training for our pilots is never a bad thing. My only concern is the effect is could have on the local population. They could see our arrival as the start of an impending crack down. Vuugerm has undermined the locals confidence in Imperial administration. We could be walking into a powder keg. I advise we tread lightly at first."

"In that, we are in complete agreement. Starting with our men patrolling the streets of the capital, helping the populace. A mix of a squad of Troopers and one of Soldiers. Its risky, but if we can get the people to make that turn, hells, we might get them to support us. Add in the release of anyone imprisoned without cause, and we might have a shot."

"Winning hearts and minds certainly has its merits. What are we going to do with/about Vuugerm"

"Nothing, unless he acts against us. Let the Karbin handle him. I would say stepping in would only draw that attention to us. Jacob, pour another round for us. Gentlemen, lets finish this up, and continue this in a few days. Colonel, anything else on your mind?"

"You can call me Gavin when we are in these informal settings. I will be having my staff draw up contingency plans and begin wargaming out scenarios we might encounter on Tao. With the amount of discontent from the local population and increasing criminal activity, we could be facing a full on insurgency by the time the fleet arrives."

Begin preparations for a combat drop over Tao. Using available data, have all personnel begin familiarizing themselves with Tao.

Have Brigade staff begin researching possible locations for new Forward Operating Bases on Tao. These should be relatively close to existing garrisons but not too far away as to impede existing ground forces.

One night, at dinner, around midway through the turn, Commander Karbin puts down his standard issue Imperial spork. “Colonal Vuugerm.” He pronounced, almost gravely. “You are being rotated off of Tao. Your tenure has been singularly unsuccessful, and it is felt that a longer stay is only likely to cause further damage to the Imperial cause.” He explained, damningly. “Infantry battalions are on their way, to take over in the coming cycle. You and your forces will prepare to leave, along with any notes you may consider … prudent to leave.”

Could Mon Calamari smile? It was hard to tell at the best of times. “However, you may yet have use to the Empire yet. You will be coming with me…”

Vrogas Vas

Vrogas Vas is a barren world with no known native life forms. Imperial records are unclear as to whether this was always the case. Of no particular mineral value, the planet has no Imperial bases or facilities.

This makes it of value to both Underworld elements and dissident groups.

Commander Karbin walks the length of the Reciprocity’s bridge, to CDRE LeRoy, in front of the Bridge main view port.
“Ah, CDRE, I’ve been waiting to meet you. To think that such a ‘legend’ would come out of retirement, and for something as pedestrian as family. I didn’t know you were so sentimental.”
“Commander Karbin, it’s been awhile since I’ve heard or even thought of that name. Where did the Empire dig you up from? I woul….”
“Careful, CDRE, you wouldn’t want an accident to happen, would you? It would be a shame if something would happen to leave your family forgotten.”
Commodore LeRoy half turns from the Bridge main forward view, looking at Commander Karbin:
“Commander, I understand that you bare the blessing of the Emperor, and I understand what that means. Having said that, do not think, for another moment, you have the right to bring my family into this. Understand this, I survived the Clone Wars, Pirates, and Jedi, you, well, would be an inconvenience. Now that we are done threatening each other, what do you want, Commander?”
“My My, you do understand how the game is played, and it seems that the Night Stalker hasn’t lost his edge, despite the years. Very well Commodore, What I want is your assistance on Vrogas Vas with a simple, little…… operation. Shouldn’t be much of an issue for a man of you…’Reputation’.”
LeRoy casts one final look at the Commander, looks back out into hyperspace, sighs, and nods, “By your order, Commander. The fleet will see it done, whatever it is.”
As Commander Karbin walk away, a bit more swagger in his step, the Commodore watched him in the reflection. In the Mon Calamari cyborg place, he sees a shifting image of many commanders from the Clone Wars, and after, men of ambition and vision. Men that gotten those under his care killed for self-vain glory and pride, only to have that which they fought for twisted into the Empire he once more served. “Ensign Mortis, PADD.” After taking his personal PADD from the young man, the Commodore creates and sends a message to Colonel Thorne, and a message to General Tagge.

Turn 8 Part I

Vrogas Vas

Task Force xxxx ‘Reciprocity’ exited Hyperspace, not knowing what they might find. Scans would reveal a debris field, which analysts quickly estimated to be roughly one reinforced or two fighter squadrons in strength. With the models being T-65B X-wings, and no planetary defence force to speak of, and the symbols that were visible, it was apparent that at least some of the wrecks had belonged to the Rebellion.

Therefore, the intel was good.

With a ground assault ordered, the four LAAT/i of 212th/1 swift departed for the planet’s surface, to secure a landing ground for the heavier vehicles. Unfortunately for them, it swiftly became apparent that there were more Rebellion starfighters yet around. Contact with the LAAT/i’s was lost, with the sound of laser fire making it clear that it was a hot landing. If they’d landed at all.

Despite this setback, Commander Karbin remained calm, and ordered the next wave in, though it is perhaps advisable for a more substantial force to be sent this time…

“RALTH, get both Colonel Thorne and Vuugerm, and Major Corrin (Commander, 212th Stormtrooper Battalion) up here, ten minutes. After that, get the CAG-Night Stalker, and CAG Reciprocity on the line, same time, and the Captain of the Night Stalker as well.”

“Yes sir.” Commander Ralth turns to a communication terminal and starts to send out the messages and summons.

“CDRE, send in the nex….” Karbin started to say, to be cut off by LeRoy.

“Stop, this is needs to be handled with care. I am not sending more men to their deaths, and I wouldn’t have if you had given me a full debriefing of what could be waiting for us.” Having said this, LeRoy turns away from Karbin, focusing on the holo-map on the table before him. “Lieutenant Masters, do we have any Viper-class probe droids in the hanger?”

“Yes sir, six at current count, would you want one deployed to the crash sites?” Lt Masters said from his station.

“I want three deployed, high altitude surveillance of the crash sites, and of the local airspace. Get it done.” “Yes Sir.”

As LeRoy fell into the rhythm of combat operations, Karbin watched the veteran officer with a mix of anger and amusement. He could wait till after his mission was complete, he would deal with insubordinate Commodore then. The Mon Calamari turned and left the bridge, heading for the hanger bay, snarking over his shoulder “I shall be in the hanger, making arrangements to land on the planet. Have fun with your failure.”
-Moments after the 1st Platoon was shot down.

Fleet Orders:
Combat Orders: Move the fleet into a far orbit of the planet, in geosynchronous orbit of the crash site, main batteries to bombardment position. Launch fleet ready fighters (2 x TIE/Ln Squadrons, 907th Squadron, 1 x TIE/Sa Squadron), and have them for up near the Reciprocity.
Corvettes Pantomime and Hardcase take escorting positions with Carrier Night Stalker, and have that formation trail the Reciprocity by 500km. Remaining TIE/Ln Squadrons to take up escorting positions around the Carrier.
Light Cruiser Ryloth, Corvette Oddball take up escort positions with Assault ship Implacable, formation taking position next to the Reciprocity’s port side, set for planetary landing. Light Cruiser Christophsis and Corvette Contrail take up escort positions with Assault ship Thunderer, taking position next to the Reciprocity’s Starboard side, set for planetary landing.
Little Nudge to take up over watch position at the ‘north pole’ of the planet, watching the hyperlanes in and out of the system. Point Break flight maintain defensive posture near the Nudge.
Deployment of 3 Viper class probe Droids in to high altitude orbit of the crash sites, searching for survivors, maintaining sensor watch for any Rebel fighters that may still be up, and targeting the area around the crash site/landing zone: Landing zone is 1km square, target zone is 4km deep, starting at the edge of the landing zone. To be called by the ground force commander, Colonel Gavin Thorne. Stand by for more orders.

"What the hell happened down there?" Thorne practically yelled as he entered the bridge of LeRoys flagship. Not even 10 minutes ago he had been standing by with RCT 1 ready to follow the 212th into the LZ. They did not even have time to launch before all communications went black.

"Poor intel, thats what happened. We where told it was a small pirate operation, don't what looks like a damn Rebel Cell." LeRoy says, still looking over the data from the Viper probe droids. "Damn it. Lt Masters, get Vice Marshal Mendes on the holo, now."

"Yes sir"

"Dammit. Didn't anyone think to recon the area first?" Thorne could feel his blood practically boiling.

"The LAATI flight was launched almost as soon as we reverted from hyperspace, against my better judgment. There are Vipers in high altitude surveillance of the crash site, and I've got a squadron of TIE/INT and a pair of TIE bombers flights ready in the hanger. Commander Karbin should be joining the ground forces in the next wave."

"May I use your comms system Commodore?" Thorne rubbing his temple in frustration

"We are still waiting for Vuugerm to get here, be my guest. Commander Ralth........." LeRoy turns to give another set of orders, leaving the spot open for the Colonel.

Thorne walked over to the comms array and immediately began punching on the pad and began hailing his Acclamator. "Thorne to Implacable"

Almost immediately the shimmering image of a relatively young naval officer appeared. Her hologram looking up at Thorne.

"Implacable Actual here"

"Commander Benteen , what's your status?"

"We are deploying into position with the rest of the fleet sir. Battlestations manned and ready"

"Very well. Launch fighters and have bombers standing by to run CAS. I am directing the feed from the viper probes directly to the command center. Tell Major Adal to prep for launch. RCT 1 is going in. I want RCT 2 on standby ready to follow us in."

"Very good sir."

"Thorne out."

Thorne turned to Commodore LeRoy.

"Forgive my presumption Commodore. I dont care what Karbin says. This is the last time we lose people for no good reason."

That we are in agreement. I'm having Ralth coordinate with Sloan on the landing of your RCT and a section of the 212ths walkers. I'm ordering four ATAT's and 12 of the ATST's along with you, use them as you will. I know your dislike of the ATAT, but they would serve well as bunkers here."

"They will beat on the enemy like a drum. Once the LZ is secure. I will deploy my artillery. Situations like this call for some shock and awe."

"Hmmm, I have an idea for that, RALTH."

"Sir?"

"Have the Vipers mark the area around the crash sites, starting a KM out to 5KM, to be targeted with the main batteries, Colonel, you have the call on the Ortillary."

Begin making immediate preparations for a combat drop.

Identify suitable landing zones and upload coordinates to all transport pilots

Have the viper probes begin marking enemy strong points and designate them for orbital strikes.

Attempt to make contact with friendly forces on ground. Need to determine if their are any survivors at the crash sites.
