Chaos in Japan With the war not going in Japan’s favor, increasing jealousy from the army directed towards the navy, and an increasingly large debt, chaos has sparked in Japan. Before any new military moves on the grand strategic level could be enacted many old high ranking officers of the Imperial Japanese Army launched a coup. Soldiers of the army quickly took control of Kyoto, bribing and intimidating many officials beforehand to make the transition go smoothly. Any resistance that was present was quickly destroyed or subdued. The emperor, now with the army having a gun barrel ready to shoot him at his head addressed the Imperial Diet and expressed his wish for a ceasefire with China, but seemingly not recognizing Korea as an independent state yet. With the help of the army, a ceasefire with The Republic of China was quickly met for 3 months.
The Imperial Japanese Navy seems to be balancing between defiance and obedience the decision of the government. All Navy officials that could, including all high ranking officers stationed in Kyoto, escaped and the word gets out that the army is supposedly controlling the emperor at gunpoint. These stories don’t make any headway with the public, but only draw foul rumors of what the Imperial Navy could possibly do next. Only time will tell what happens next.

Luis Miguel Sánchez Cerro shortly thereafter arrived at Lima and was named the President of Peru, starting a military dictatorship backed by the people for now.
