The Rhodes Parable III Submissions and Lore
Background:
Before there was the Federated States of the Galaxy, before there was even interstellar travel, there was just Earth. The homeland of humanity, the origin point of all known civilization and science. The 21st century had been an immensely tumultuous time for the race, with natural disasters, wars, pandemics, a whole slough of devastating events on all corners of the globe. By the 2030s the Western World had seen many changes, the death of His Majesty Charles III led to new independence referendums in the British isles, of which resulted in the Irish Reunification of 2036 and complete Scottish Independence, the latter nation quickly re-integrating itself into the European Union. In 2039 the president of Russia Vladimir Putin suffered a stroke and although much effort was expended the old ruler died, leading to a total collapse within the Russian State. the ruble plummeted, the countries government and oligarchs turned on eachother and the planned elections to choose the next president were never able to be put into play. The Second Russian Civil War brought much chaos and destruction to the nation, and by extension threw into disarray any semblance of cohesion with Russian Forces in the Ukraine War. Ukrainian forces quickly capitalized on this and through a brutal year long offensive retook not only Russian occupied lands but also the rebellious zones of Donetsk, Luhansk, and had crossed into Crimea by early 2041. In mid 2042 the Ukrainians had achieved complete occupation and reconquest in Crimea, whilst large swaths of Russia had fallen under the Democratic Salvation Government, headed by a federation of the Russian United Democratic Party Yabloko, People's Freedom Party, Party of Growth, and quite possibly most importantly the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. As well as this in June of 2042 president of Belarus Lukashenko was deposed and ousted, with a reborn Belarusian Popular Front "Revival" taking control of the government under interim president Vadzim Sarančukoŭ.Eventually in 2043 the DSG had achieved victory in the Second Russian Civil War, and set about beginning to rebuild and transition into a new government, with Nikolay Rybakov assuming the presidency. One of the first acts was the signing of the Treaty of Minsk, which ended the Russo-Ukrainian war officially generally following former president Zelenskyy's 10 point proposal. As well as this the two republics and Bielarus began a pivot westward, aiming to rebuild the long strained ties with the European Union. Soon after this in 2046 Romania and Moldova entered a political union, and Scotland was fully integrated into the European Union. The collapse of Russia had in the east also meant the swift reoccupation of Abkhazia and South Ossetia by Georgian forces, however with staunch South Ossetian resistance the government in Tblisi finally permitted an independence referendum, which succeeded with over 80% support of independence. In Abkhazia the local populace was granted a special autonomous status and promised a referendum within 10 years, including international overwatch to ensure their autonomy and minority protection was enforced. During this time of chaos the Chechen Republic had also secured its independence, as Russian forces were too focused on their own homelands to care for the Caucasus.
By the late 2050s the European Union welcomed in Bielarus, Russia, Ukraine, as well as North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, and Georgia. The world elsewhere had not stood idly however, and by the late 2020s the Syrian Civil War came to an official end with the Syrian Constitutional Committee who after serious discussions managed to include the Syrian Democratic Forces come together to repair the deeply broken republic and oust Turkish occupation forces. The Israeli genocide in Palestine continued, and in the end despite global outcry the Gaza Strip was fully occupied and its residents continued to be starved out, with Israeli forces destroying humanitarian aid and promptly continuing to blame Hamas or other such organizations. With Hamas nominally destroyed and only upon the full sanctioning of the Israeli State by the EU and many American states did the apartheid regime finally come to the negotiation table. Israel was to continue being under sanction unless they retired from the Gaza Strip and would withdraw from the Palestinian State, forcing a two state solution one way or another. Israel would finally relent by the 2030s and the Palestinian State would be established, with Jerusalem to overall be ceded to Israel under the condition that it will still be visitable and passable for Palestinian refugees freely as a neutral ground between the two. In Africa the states of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania had come together to form the East African Federation, and spurred on some of the highest development in the continent. In Asia the conflict in Myanmar finally came to a close with a more stable national government forming, and in the east the Korean states had come to a mutual agreement for nominal reunification, under their one state two systems ideas. By the 2060s Iceland joined into the EU, as well as Norway and even Greenland's further integration.
Many lesser events occurred over the next decades but what it led to was that by the early 2100s the European Union reformed into the Eurasian Federation, accounting for Russia's far eastern holdings. In 2122 however all would change, as many resource wars began to occur all across the globe, escalating further and further leading to the withdrawal of Canada and the United States from NATO amongst other things. These resource wars would culminate in the Great Famine as it came to be known, lasting near 20 years and causing hundreds of millions of deaths on all continents alike, and all this instability would lead to the Second Great Depression as it was coined. Eventually as famine began to subside and new technologies had alleviated some of the pressure of Earthly resource shortages the Global Peace Assembly was formulated, risen from the ashes of the former UN. In 2158 the global leaders would ratify the Global Peace and Unification Initiative, beginning the steps toward eventual planetary unification. The following year in 2159 the Global Defense Initiative was signed, before later in 2162 all representatives agreeing and ratifying the Decree of Planetary Unification.
Although now united humanity still had a long way to go and the unification had formed Earth into many geographic regions that still did things on their own terms, these being the North American Federative Zone, Caribbean Federative Zone (including Centroamerica), the South American Federative Zone, the Eurasian Federative Zone (including all Europe aside from Turkey, but also including Georgia and Armenia), the Levantine Federative Zone (including Turkey and the Arabian Peninsula), the Central Asian Federative Zone (including Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan), the Indian Federative Zone (including the subcontinent minus Myanmar), the Southeast Asian Federative Zone, the Indo-Philippine Federative Zone, the Oceanic Federative Zone, the East Asian Federative Zone, and the African Federative Zone. These different zones all began to fund greater expeditions out into space, and by 2169 on the hundredth anniversary of the moon landings the first semi-permanent Lunar Outposts were established. By the 2170s the first exploratory Martian bases were established, and in 2184 the first humans landed on Ceres.
In 2197 fusion engines became widespread, permitting the ability to travel between Mars and Earth in roughly 30-40 days, cutting down on the multi hundred day travel distances of past journeys. In 2243 the first fully permanent lunar colony, Hyperion is founded which leads to greater funds by all Federative Zones for differing colonial missions to varying degrees. In 2260 the Martian Terraforming Initiative was signed, beginning the process of terraforming the planet. Gasses are brought and shipped from Venus and Earth, whilst ice is brought from Ceres and other asteroid bodies; thus beginning to change the red planet into a true sister of Earth. Soon after this the Venerian Terraforming Initiative was also signed, and work began upon turning both of these bodies habitable. In the late 2200s Ceres is colonized via dome-cities to allow greater access to the mineral wealth of the Asteroid Belt, and the Lunar population surpassed 10,000.
By the late 2300s terraforming of Mars had been decreed finished and the first colonies were established, propelling humanity into a new era. In the early 2400s Venus and Mercury are likewise terraformed and colonization begins, marking the complete human settlement of the inner planets. At this time various other organizations expeditionary journeys to the outer planets lead to the terraforming and colonization of outer planetary bodies, including the establishment of colonies in Saturns rings, floating cities in Uranus and Neptune, and asteroid stations from the inner ring to the Kuiper Belt. In the year 2533 the United Earth government would begin to extract higher taxes and regulations on the colonies to better bolster their own stockpiles, with the outer planetary bodies hit especially hard. Resentment grows over the decades as in response to protests for returned autonomy the Terran government only further cracks down on any dissidence, causing the first stellar independence movements to form. In 2686 the final straw would break, as in an attempt to remove autonomy from the colony of Mars lead to a proclamation of independence from the city of Ares, beginning what would come to be a many decades long struggle. Three years later in 2689 Venus would follow suit and then Mercury, the former Terran-Martian war becomes known as the Inner System War.
In 2691 with Earth's forces distracted and as one of the most economically strong colonies Jupiter would be the first of the outer bodies to declare independence, leading to smaller proxy conflicts in Ganymede and Callisto between pro-earth and pro-independence forces. Jovian soldiers arrive in both moons ending the civil war for the time being, and within two years Saturnian rebels declare their independence. The Jovian occupation of Ganymede and Callisto is challenged by the Terran Expeditionary Fleet, assembled after Earth signed the Lunar Peace Accords granting the inner planets their independence. Pluto after much atmospheric storms made contact between it and the colonial authorities near impossible for years declares independence, Saturnian and Jovian forces collide and break into war. Terran Expeditionary Fleets retake and begin an occupation of Pluto, and due to the focus on the body is unable to respond to the beginning of war between Neptunian and Uranian colonists in the outer belt. The largest Kuiper bodies in form of Eris, Haumea, Sedna, and others declare their independence, as do Neptune and Uranus. Terran forces despite their best efforts are unable to keep hold of the Outer Planets and retreat back into the inner solar system, including various strongholds in Ceres and the Asteroid Belt. During all of this the outer bodies continue to battle, with Pluto and Eris entering a short war in 2734. In 2735 all the representatives of the various governments in the Solar System come together and sign the Cerean Peace Accord, recognizing the independence of all the new nations throughout the system; which leads to the current political landscape today. Although peace has been achieved not many believe it will last, with many boundary disputes and the chaos of the recently collapsed Terran System only time will tell what the future holds. One of the most important developments in the immediate post period is the launching of the Event Horizon, utilizing all new manners of fusion technology in an unmanned mission to try to explore outside of the Solar System.
Nation Submission Sheets:
Anyone who wishes to take part in the RP must create a submission that at least nominally follows the template below, and although you may nominally formulate your nation however you please a degree of "realism" is appreciated in its organizations, naming conventions, etc. If you plan to play something like Earth I expect you to put in the appropriate work, as for any restrictions generally limit yourself to a single planetary body, if you're say playing as one of Saturn's moons you can say pick up to three if you're the smaller ones, if you're Triton then one, etc. Of course an exception is if you play say as ceres and you take the other larger notable asteroids in the belt then its fine to do more, just utilize common sense above all else. The Template:
Official Name: (Self Explanatory)
Unofficial Names/Terms: (Self Explanatory)
Nation’s Flag/Symbol: (Self Explanatory)
Government Type/Structure: How is your government structured? Think of the three branches of the U.S. government as being an example. How are the executive, legislative, and judicial functions encapsulated in your government?
Capital: State the city, planet/astrological object, and system of your capital.
Leader(s): What is the name of your leader(s), what is their title(s)?
Population: The total number of people in your state. For the population of the inner planets you can range from the hundreds of millions to near a billion, if you are being Earth itself you can include the global populace and guesstimate for the moon, if you're an outer planetary body/moon generally a few dozen to a few hundred million depending on the size and type of body inhabited, and if you are in an asteroid or other similar situation low millions at most.
Currency: What is the currency used by your nation in the post independence world? Is your currency still linked to Earth and its own?
Politics: (How do things really run? Is there a predominantly criminal element in the running of your country? Are there military cliques? Does the nobility have sway, or is the will of the masses in control? Even if you are an absolute monarchy with significant military control, you may be subject to the influence of major newspapers and religious authorities.)
Society: (Describe the character of your society. Is there a large middle-class that dominate the domestic market? Is there minority groups heavily persecuted against? Do dairy farmers hold great societal value? How is society made up in your nation? Describe the control of wealth, influence and power between major demographic groups (identity groups/class groups/labor groups/etc.) in your nation.)
Culture(s): (Describe the high culture, and the general culture(s) of your nation. The high culture are your classics: Is your nation famous for its fine paintings and orchestras? What brings the bourgeois and high society out in the evenings? Now, the general culture(s) are the cultural groups that make up your nation? Think in terms of groups like Germans, Mandarin, Polynesians, and Romani. They can be defined by ethnicity, religion, or whatever else. This is important for solidifying the demographics of your nation.)
Academia: (This is more of a catch-all term for your technology level, the level of your universities, and overall education/literacy of your nation. If your nation leads in steam-technology, lacks in farmer literacy, or has great humanities departments, this is the section to put it in.)
Economy: (What is your economy driven by? Is it an autarky, or trade-based? Are your major exports agriculture goods (this should be a major one for most of you) or industrial goods? What areas do you excel in and what areas do you lag? Is your economy made up of major corporations, state companies, or many many small businesses/local owners?)
Resources: (What are the major/numerous resources that are present in your nation and colonies?)
Infrastructure: (Describe the extent of your infrastructure. Do you have major trade ports and civilian shipyards? Great big oil refineries? A massive rail network? Or simply dirt roads, and town-centric businesses. This requires a single, simple sentence, summarizing the entirety of your infrastructure at the end of the description.)
History: Write a paragraph about the formation of your state, and how it got started during the war. You can write whatever you want so as long as it doesn’t contradict the game’s main lore and it is semi-realistic.
Investigation/State Police Agency: The name of your state police or national investigation agency, if your nation has one. Flair piece.
Non-Military Government Organizations: List two organizations that your government runs. Name them, and describe what they do. They can be aid givers, exploration company, science corps, government owned transport corporation, a merchant marine, anything, so long as it’s not military. If these organizations involve ships such as transports, exploration ships, science ships, and others, then include it with your naval number calculations.
Army/Air Forces: (Describe the extent of your Army. You may give a qualitative description, but you’re required to give a quantitative description as well. We need to know the extent of your ground forces, infantry and air forces, the weapons they use, the extent of your armories and forts, and anything else you deem relevant.)
Navy(Planetary and/or Space): (Describe the extent of your Navy. You may give a qualitative description, but you’re required to give a quantitative description as well. Describe the number of relevant ships, whether they be in planet water vessels or new spacefaring vessels. Any relevant shipyards and fueling outposts are also required to be put in here.)
