The world is changing. The revolutions of 1848 were defeated, subverted or mitigated, yes, but ideas are harder to kill than men. Ideas abound too, not just of politics but of all aspects of life, from agriculture to transport to war to art to literature and everything in between and more besides. Will you hold on to what you know, and the certainty of the familiar? Will you embrace change? Will you hold your breath and wait and see?
Time will tell.
This thread is for country reservations and number lists.
Ideally turns will start from the 21st January.

United States of America Less than 100 years after gaining independence from Great Britain, the US has grown into a nation on the cusp of greatness. From its humble origins as 13 disunited colonies fighting for independence, the territory controlled by the US now extends across the continent from the Atlantic to Pacific. After defeating Mexico, the US has begun consolidation of its new territories. But even as the US prepares for a period of peace and prosperity, war clouds have appeared on the horizon. The nation is vastly divided among political, regional and socio-economic lines. The Federal government has kicked the can down the road for decades, but the issues now threaten to divide the country even further. The fate of the entire nation, and the lives of millions, both born and unborn will be decided in the coming years. This will be the greatest test the young nation will face...

The Ottoman Empire/Devlet-i ʿAlīye-i ʿOsmānīye"Devlet-i Ebed-müddet"After centuries of glory the Sublime State has begun to waver and fall behind, disastrous affairs such as the rebellion of Muhammad Ali and the Greek rebellions have signaled to the west the weakness of the empire. In response under the guidance of the late Sultan Mahmud II and current Majesty Abdulmejid I the Tanzimat has been put into place, a widescale complete overhaul of all sectors of Ottoman governance and life. The Ottoman army has been brought much closer into the western style and doctrine and although needing aid proved itself in the recent Crimean War, though many faults still exist and must be overcome. The Ottoman economy has been hard hit by capitulations and unequal treaties permitting European merchants to walk over the empire as if they were the Sultan himself, and this causes much anger throughout the populace yet one must act cautiously to avoid rousing the western beasts. Overall the future of the empire remains uncertain, and only time will tell whether it can be saved or if it is doomed to collapse.
