In the year 2371, there lay a system undiscovered, hidden within a nebula far from Federation space. Its mystery has warranted the eye of Starfleet, and in doing so, a ship has been sent, the USS John Paul Jones. A nebula class cruiser, its primary mission was to explore this system and chart it for the Federation, and find out the secrets of this Nebula. Unbeknownst to the Jones' captain, a cloaked Cardassian vessel, the Kraxon, followed the Nebula cruiser into the Nebula after intercepting a Federation communication. Much to the surprise of Captain Morgan when he and his crew realized their inability to reactive the Warp core after exiting warp in the system, only matched by the surprise of seeing a massive surge in tachyon particles following their entrance into the system. It wasn't long before a Cardassian Galor class vessel decloaked, raised its deflector shields, and locked phasers. Now it was up to Morgan, what would he do, how will he escape, who will come looking for him.

"Captain, we have an unknown vessel decloaking off our starboard bow!"
"On screen, go to yellow alert".
The Bridge of the John Paul Jones lit up with yellow lights on each console and along the back wall. Looking at the main view screen, the entire bridge staff observed as a clearly Cardassian vessel shimmered into view. Morgan shot a quick glance at his first officer who appeared to be just as puzzled as him. Cardassian vessels didn't normally operate with cloaking devices. He was about to speak when his operations officer, Lieutenant Commander Tpau, in her almost monotone vulcan voice said,
"sir, enemy vessel has charges weapons, he's locked".
Reacting quickly, Morgan immediately called for red Alert. Klaxons sounded across the ships and the weapons were brought online to face the new threat.
"Weapons at full power" called the ships weapons officers.
"Prepare to lock weapons, don't fire until I give the command. Tpau, hail the Cardassian vessel."

Gul RanorRanor was irked by his decision to decloak. It gave away their element of surprise, and allowed the Federation vessel prepare defenses, but Ranor did not want to be detected without his deflector shields. If only he had undergone some more training with these cloaking devices, alas he had no such opportunity, instead Central Command sent him right away to follow the USS John Paul Jones so that Cardassia would know what system was so special it would require its own exploration mission. Regardless, he kept his wits about him, he needed to outsmart these Starfleet officers if he wanted to find out what this system held that was so special. Ranor grinned eagerly when the hail came in, "Put them on the main view screen." The active transmission appeared on the Kraxon's bridge view screen, showing Captain Morgan sitting on the bridge. "Ah, Captain Morgan, I've been awaiting your company, however it is unfortunate we could not meet during better circumstances. I'm afraid I must ask you to lower your deflector shields and submit your vessel to Cardassian control or we will be forced to fire upon you."

"Well sir, it appears you know more about me than I you. That you have the audacity to request my surrender without even introducing yourself or your ship? Well sir, you may fire when ready".
Morgan turned to his communications officer and signaled for the communications to be cut.
"Mr Foley, lock phasers on their primary weapons. Give me a full torpedo spread along their ventral axis."
He wishes to test is strength against us. We shall allow him to do so.

Gul RanorThe sensor technician looked up from his console to exclaim, "The Federation vessel is firing their photon torpedoes, and their phasers are locking on to our weapons array!" Ranor was quick in his reaction, "Return fire with our phaser banks on their own weapons array. Use our forward disruptor on their impulse engines, we cannot withstand a prolonged conflict with our new found friends." "Helmsman, set our heading towards the third planet in this system," Ranor slammed the communications unit on his command chair, "Engineering, give me full-" The ship jerked as it was hit by the first barrage of photon torpedoes, the sensors console erupted in a blaze of sparks as it sent the Cardassian officer from his chair. Some of the bridge crew was on the floor, with pipes and circuitry fractured letting out steam and sparks, but they quickly recovered. Ranor opened up the comms relay once more, "Engineering, full impulse on our current heading!" Ranor could only hope he could escape the Federation's grasp. Kraxon
The Kraxon has suffered structural damage and moderate damage to three of its four phaser banks. Its deflector shields have reached 12%, however the ship's engines and disruptor are undamaged and fully operational. At full impulse engines, it is attempting to escape the battle, passing the USS John Paul Jones. Heading towards the third planet within the system, the largest M class planet in the star system. John Paul JonesAlthough its first firing solution was successful, it has suffered damage from the Cardassian counter attack. Its shields have been lowered to 81%, and its impulse engines have been damaged. An about turn must be made in order to fire phaser banks.

The John Paul Jones shook as the Cardassians returned fire.
"Captain, direct hit to your starboard impulse manifold. Shields are holding at 90%"
"Hard to starboard, keep the port side between the Cardassians and our starboard"
The John Paul Jones veered to the right attempting to shield the battle damage from the Cardassian ship. The Cardassian ship in this moment quickly turned to their starboard and slipped beind the John Paul Jones making full impulse away from the battle.
"sir, the Cardassian ship has suffered moderate damage. They are attempting to retreat".
"Come about, lay in a pursuit course and target their engines."
"Sir, our impulse engines are damaged. Best speed is currently 1 one quarter impulse."
"Make it so, keep the enemy vessel within our weapons range as long as possible".
The John Paul Jones swung around to face the Cardassians which were quickly opening the distance between itself and the Jones.
"Sir, the cardassians are leaving our effective weapons range."
"Can you get a lock on them with the tractor beam?"
"Negative sir, he is out of range"
Morgan pushed his comm badge.
"Captain to engineering"
"Yes Captain".
"Mr Kel'shon, I need warp drive now."
"Negative sir, I can't do it. Warp drive is offline."
"Were the engines hit in the battle?"
"Not that I can tell Captain. The reactor and nacelles appear fine. I just can't establish a stable warpfield".
"How long to repair it?"
"I have to figure out whats wrong first..."
"Understood, Morgan out".
"The Cardassians are out of range" said his first officer somewhat solemnly as she stared at the view screen.
"Where are they headed?"
"Their course takes them directly to a class M planet in the system."
"Make best speed for the planet Mr Brochta. Tpau, I want you to begin a high energy sensor sweep of the entire area. Have damage repair teams begin work on the impulse engines."

Gul RanorRanor slammed his fist on the arm of his chair, "Dammit! What are our casualties," The first officer stepped towards the Gul, "13 dead, 28 injured, Gul Ranor." Ranor pinched the bridge of his nose, "Slate those who died for accommodations for service to the empire, and do what you can with the wounded." The first officer nodded. Ranor opened a comms relay to engineering, with much less emotion, "Prepare the warp core for transit, we are leaving." There was a pause before the engineering chief replied, "Gul, our war matrix is not functioning." Ranor's eyes widened just a little, "Please repeat that, Chief Haeran." The voice only grew more fearful, "The warp core, it just simply isn't working, for no reason at all." Ranor hesitated before doing anything, realizing his new predicament. Stuck in a system with a far more outfitted enemy vessel, with a captain that harbored ill feelings towards the Cardassians. Ranor mumbled some swears before snapping back to being the Gul of the Kraxon. Ranor announced to the bridge crew, "Engage cloak, but do not alter heading, it is time we properly used our new found technology." Scene End

Act Two
Four hours have passed... USS John Paul JonesOnce the Cardassian vessel cloaked, the Jones lost its signature, and with the disability of their impulse engine damage, they soon gave up any hope of pursuit. However they still kept their heading towards the planet. As time passed, they completed their repairs to the best of their ability, restoring impulse engines to 92% functionality. After four hours the Jones had nearly completed its journey to the planet, only 50 kilometers away from high orbit of the planet, well within range for sub space communiques.
